the concept:

urban grit is my portrait of 21st Century urban life, of everyday things and moments which are usually unseen and passed by. It is a form of street and sense of place photography, conveying the essence and layers of life in the urban ecosystem and unseen environment. It takes a look at the gritty indicators of human habitation, the marks that people leave behind either consciously or subconsciously, at regeneration and constant evolution, and how people interact with their environment in play, in work, in life.

urban grit looks at different cities and environments around the world, and finds recurring themes. My approach is to simply follow my intuition and let it lead me to what I am meant to see – through the streets, on road trips, down alleys and around corners; by day and by night. Sometimes I end up in dodgy places, sometimes in hidden worlds, and off-piste routes – and in all of these I’ve discovered something unique… a strong image and inherent beauty of human life. And, of course, I have a few tales to tell too. This is my approach to find “urban grit”: walk it, breathe it, see it. And I’ve only started to scratch the surface.”
